As opposed to some conclusions, we are not “scam artists” or “thieves” –we hate plagiarism as much as the next guy. And plagiarism is NOT what we do at WordPrexy.com.
What we do at WordPrexy.com is basically offer an easy to use proxy service to bypass the blocking of WordPress.com in Turkey. What we don’t do is copy your content and serve it as ours, or host it on our servers. We have neither the capacity nor the financial sources to do so.
Yes, Google -sometimes- indexes your posts on WordPrexy.com higher than on WordPress.com. We have no idea why; it’s not intentional.
Yes, we have Google Ads on WordPrexy.com. Only because the reasons I mentioned earlier: we just don’t have enough resources.
We like WordPress. We use WordPress. We support WordPress. We wouldn’t want to hurt the Automattic, Inc. guys, or their users and customers. And that is why we set up WordPrexy.com, because we don’t want WordPress to get hurt by our crooked legal system. If WordPress gets back online in Turkey, we’re out.
I think it’s time we put this in English too, so here goes nothing:
Disclaimer: WordPrexy is a WordPress-specific proxy server. It only mirrors the content; it does neither copy nor host any of the actual content found on WordPress.com. WordPrexy.com is not responsible from the material and content found in it’s sites and cannot be held liable for them.
So there you have it… If you have anymore questions, just leave a comment…
PS: If you want your site removed from wordprexy.com, just drop us a line… (Removal requests written as comments to this post will not be taken into acccount.)
EDIT (19.09.2007): We are getting lots of threats and bad words. For those of you who are firing up their mail clients to curse at us, let me say this: Every other proxy site puts ads. Some of them even have those talking smiley thingies. But hear this: As long as we don’t get a huge donation to cover our bandwidth costs, the ads stay there.
EDIT (21.09.2007): Some people still don’t understand what a proxy is. There are mails from WordPress users who are using the application on their own hosts. There are mails saying that we are going to burn in hell for stealing their material. I am anouncing now that we are going to use the money from the AdSense to have those people admitted to special facilities for people with IQ’s of below 50.
Nah, just kidding. They’ll have to deal with their retardedness themselves. But hear this: we are going to keep the AdSense ads until it reaches 100$, since we can’t get the money before that, we will cash the money, and donate it to an opensource project. When we get closer to the goal, more will be anounced.
EDIT (22.09.2007): No more AdSense, and a robots.txt file to block all search engines. So what do we do with the 27$ that we will never get and be able to donate anywhere? Who knows… Maybe we’ll leave it to Google; maybe one day, that 27$ will save their lives.
EDIT (23.09.2007): We now have a donation link in the navigation bar! We would appreciate any amount of donation. Thanks in advance to all who are donating.

But you insert your ads in wordpress blogs ???
YOU’RE GENIUS! I love us, guys. How the hell…? Mirror the blogs must be very difficult.
@David: Like I said in the post, it’s to justify the bandwidth costs. Even though we don’t host the sites, the traffic goes through WordPrexy.com, and our daily bandwidth consumption is a gig at minimum.
Besides, every other proxy site has advertisements.
@Makin: Thank you.
You are a son of a bitch. Since you include adsense in my blog, you are violating the non-commercial clause of the creative commons license.
I deman you to inmediately remove my blog of your mirrowing, or, at least, remove the publicity of it.
You can contact me via e-mail.
Thanks wordpress team!
@Peká: You just insulted a group of hardworking people. Thank you.
You could use the link I posted, you know. And if you could lose the attitude, it’ll do you good in real life. (Oh wait… You probably don’t use that language in real life.)
And how do you exactly expect me to know the address of your blog? We are web programmers, not seers.
Note: We will not remove sites of bloggers who demand it here, on the comments. Use the link, Luke!
@Vehbi: This has nothing to do with WordPress. They are cool with it, but that’s about it.
Why don’t you limit it at turkeish ips ?
But… I don’t like my content to be duplicated…
Can’t you erase my blog copy?
What the hell is this?
At first I was freak out with this proxy thing, but now I read this post I must said that I am glad about what you did, good luck.

This is a complete and utterly evil SCAM, nobody is buying that this is just a proxy to help turkish and blah, admit it, you want money and that’s all.
I don’t mind spam or phishing, but scammers trying to look good are hypocrites.
Please stop mirroring my site, I won´t tolerate my ideas being stolen by someone who stole Spider-man, Santo and Capt. America in 3 Dev Adam.
Again, stop mirroring my site. Thank you.
@kesar: We thought of that at one point, but for some reason or the other we decided not to do it. I think we did it because we are not the only country that blocks WordPress; in fact, not long ago, Pakistan did the same thing.
@caente: Thanks…
@Verlier: I don’t now how I can get you to beleive that we are not in it for the money. Maybe after we take the part that covers the bandwidth cost, we can send the rest to you? You got a check account? Or perhaps PayPal?
Nah, I think I’ll donate it to Mark O’Sullivan. I’ve heard he is more of a use than you are.
@Natán, karlinhos and sinfulmx: You will have to send us an e-mail, using the link at the post. As it is said in the post, we will not acknowledge removal request asked in the comments. (If you already sent a mail, ignore this message.)
BTW, we did some adjustments to the system, so when a blog is removed from WordPrexy, a 404 page containing the message sent to us appears. If you’re not cursing at us, you’ve got nothing to worry about.
I can certify that the form supplied is working and cancelling the proxy service for the informed web, because I have just tried it and works!
Pals, I wish you good luck, with your effort, but I understand that my spanish speaking blog is of no interest to turkish users.
Iniciativa razonable, pero lamentablemente pudo haberse ejecutado mejor…
@Manuel: Like I said, we don’t have resources to execute it better. I was, and still am, against ads myself, but I’m not willing to pay it out of my pocket.
Any suggestions are welcome though, as long as it’s not in Spanish.
(Yeah, we don’t do Spanish. We speak English, a little German, even less Russian –but no Spanish.)
I think yours is a good idea. The problem here, nevertheless, is that you are putting Adsense on content with CC-nc license without explicit permission. Yes, that’s violation of the CC-nc license. I understand that you have to pay for the bandwidth, but I think you should try to go a step ahead the people’s rage about it.
It’s a shame Turkish people can’t access Wordpress blogs at all and you have to use this kind of workarounds.
Good luck, I think it’s an amazing project.
and for the people who talk about the violation of non-commercial bla bla bal of crative comons and that stuff..
shut up please.
it seems like you just want to complain about anythig…
Sorry if i made any spelling mistake, i’m spanish.
You work is discutible, you gain on our mind. We don’t have any return from this domain. There is not a link to original post. I don’t like…
Maybe I was very (very very very) rude before, and I beg perdon. It was the heat of the moment, we say in Spain.
But you shouldn’t include adword in other people job without her permission.
And I know you are no seers, that’s the reason I used my real email in the field, something I never do. But I’ll use the link (I didn’t see it before), this comment is only to apologize.
I’m sure you have the better intentions, and did a good job, but nobody likes seen his work “corrupted” by publicity.
And I beg pardon again for my language.
how disk space uses all the blogs? , good work helping our friends in turkey to use wordpress!!!
I think what you guys are doing is great. I first heard you cloned wordpress in order to get revenues by the content publushed by other people, but then i remembered you guys couldnt access wordpress blogs, same way Iran or Chine with Google. Still, i think you should tell search robots not to index the stuff that is on wordprexy, is not really good for bloggers (nor bad, it just shouldnt happen).
Great Work!!!
Stay tunned…
My but sincere RESPECT gentlemen! this is single an act of freedom of expression with a little knowledge!
NOT TO THE REPRESSION ahead and congratulations!
excuse my English but I do not speak English single Spanish this is a text that I translated: D
it advanced and greetings
For cleaning your name you should publish whether you are winning or loosing money, and donate the money to a bunch of ONG, better if related with blogging.
There is a campaing in progress in some countries…. So… do something.

I’m getting really pissed off by some of your comments and mails.
READ THE FUCKING POST!!!
We will NOT remove sites posted on the comments and we are NOT making any shit from AdSense, we will donate the money to a known open source project!
God, how hard is it to READ SOMETHING! How do some of you even get a blog and write on it?! It boggles my mind to think that you can actually form sentences!
And for the idiots who claim that “we are copying their material”, check this: http://proxy.org/ Enter your site to any one of them, you’ll see that THEY PUT ADS ON IT, AND SHOW IT EVEN THOUGH IT’S NOT YOUR SITE!
What we’re doing is the same, only easier.
Yeah, good luck to you removing your blog out of those sites!
Which is the objective of this clonación?

Regards from Ecuador!!
Why blogs little visited does not have adsense?
I did not give authorization to you to use MY WORK and to collect money with it for no project open source.
Open source now decided to steal and to plagiarize?
Bastard
If he does not hide behind the Open Source. Either man.
You’re a joker, yo.
@Lucas: You are and idiot with an IQ of a seamonkey who doesn’t know how to read. You sir, are a moron, who can’t see what we are trying to do here. You wanted the ads gone, so we are trying to get rid of them, while doing something nice.
And for the love of God, how many times do I have to repeat this for you freaks of natures to understand this: THIS IS NOT PLAGIARISM!
It would be plagiarism if I stole your stuff and put it up as mine. This is just an alternative way to see you website!
Its problem is that I do not give authorization to you for “alternatives” for my sites.
If one was proxy clean I nor would bind, but the problem is to have adsense and to appear in the top of bucas of the Google. That is, you assuming or not, are gaining money with the work of all here.
I that I am idiotic? Idiot is who copies blogs of the others and if she hides behind the Open Source.
You it is the type that dirty the Open Source. It is because of bastards as soon as the not accepted population almost nothing of free software.
I wait that the access to the Wordpress continues blocked:)
Main mine blog (the most visited), nor is in the Wordpress, then you do not go to be profiting from me.
He learns to gain money with its creativity that one day you is perhaps some thing.
Son of puta.
Fuck with its plagiarism.
Hey, you guys going to donate the money from AdSense to an opensource project really? If yes, ok, you have permission to clone my blog :p
Ok, ok, it’s a joke. I’m brazilian, and I’m totally out about Turkey News. There is some restriction to acess Wordpress blog there?
My blog is about translations, maybe I may show some informations to the brazilian bloggers, that not still understand yours situation.
Thanks in Advance,

Hey LittleSnitch, you’re right with this Lucas. I’m almost convinced he used Google translator to post a comment… His last comment is unintelligible.
I’ve sent you an e-mail already… I liked you ideas against this turkish opression. Keep up the work (if it’s true, since we all don’t know the truth about those addss… Just kidding). =)
Easy LittleSnitch. Why are you insulting your visitors? If you’re doing something for good, explain them. If they’re not worth of an answer, then DO NOT respond. But with this kind of attitude, don’t expect to be taken seriously. And again, please easy there and don’t make yourself look like you’re doing something wrong. As a supporter of this idea, I suggest you to write a step-by-step description of this project which also should be linked where people can see.
Delete my blog from your domain, please… please.
I don’t have content, but you have no permissions to clone it… because this is only a perfect clone with adsense.
You have no right to access my information on Wordpress.com.
Not liberty… only monetize.
PD: “Son of puta” xDDDDD
I really wish I found your website a month ago. I was beside myself when I realized that there was no way for me to view or edit my wordpress blog. I had to go out and get webhosting (it cost me almost $100,) go through all the work of setting up a new blog on a new webpage, and then I had to try to transform all of the traffic I’d been getting on my old site (foreignperspective.wordpress.com) over to my new site, along with moving all of my content. I think what you’re doing is great. If I’d known about you all, your site could have saved me a lot of time and money. Thanks for doing this to help bloggers and readers in Turkey. The people who are complaining about your hard work obviously don’t know what it’s like to live in Turkey.
Lucas, littlesnitch and all the other complainers:
Has it crossed your mind that nobody will even look at your site on wordprexy.com unless they live in Turkey? If someone looks at your site in Turkey, they have no other access to your content. Your site is being read by people who wouldn’t be able to access it otherwise. Chill out. These guys are helping your content to reach more people.
While i understand your reasons, what your doing is just plain wrong. Just because other sites are doing it dosent make it right? Just because other thieves break into houses should i start doing it?
I do not condone ads on my blogs, i never have and never will and dropped you an email as you requested.
The current problem is a turkish internal problem, its upto the turkish to sort it out themselves, if they cant then they’ll never be a part of the EU
If you’d like to continue this as a legit service, I would suggest doing two things:
* Remove the ads, they cause a lot of confusion and bad will and you say they aren’t making money anyway.
* Add a robots.txt so none of the pages are crawled or indexed, otherwise you’ll cause blogs to get duplicate content penalties.
The robot restriction should also help your usage problems, as you’ll be sure only real people are using the service and not search engine crawlers.
@Wendell Raphael: We would really appreciate that. Matt has a post about the Turkey block right here. You can also contact us if you have more questions.
@Rev. Peterson Cekemp: I will reply to you as soon as I can check my mails.
@Robin: I’ve got a bad temper, I cannot hold myself when someone insists on not understanding something. I will consider your suggestion, thank you.
@Matt: We have already removed the ads. We will also take measures to prevent robots indexing us, but we’re looking for ways to do it country based, so only that WordPrexy is seen when it is searched from Google Turkey, Thailand or Pakistan.
Rev. Peterson Cekemp, I’m Brazilian u.u
Most important it was said, and it it removed the Google AdSense. Now it is all ok. (y)
Being one of the 20 to 30 thousand blocked users of WordPress in Turkey, I’m happy this temporary workaround has appeared. It’s certainly a damn sight quicker than running slow and possibly illegal software to circumvent the block. Like you said, as soon as WP is unblocked you’ll quit. And removing the contentious ads that are causing distress to some (mostly outside of Turkey, it seems) was a thoroughly wise move.
I have one question: I’ve posted a comment on a WP blog using “wordprexy” but the comment appears after submission with all the spaces between the words gone, which wasn’t how I typed it. Inotherwords, itlookslikethis! Is it a glitch you can fix, or should we use double-spacing to get around it?
Otherwise, good work guys!
Double-spacing doesn’t work either. I just tried it.
ah Jim,
we have problems with GET and POST data. and this thing is damn hard to solve due to wordprexy’s and wordpress’ complex redirect rules (301 redirection does not redirect post data.) i was trying to solve it yesterday with a workaround, but then i thought it will not work and quit dealing with it.
now i’m suprised that it works with some glitches, so i’m on it again. thanks for your report.
So, the space problem is solved and we have added a robots.txt, after finding out that we can’t filter search engines based on the country.
WTF! kind off censura!!!!
Good Luck and keep working for the freedom of speech!!!
Merhaba gro.tiiy
Thanks for the tip on my blog about the Firefox extension that automatically redirects “wordpress” in the address to “wordprexy.” Only snag is it also does it automatically for logging in to WP, where we write, manage the blog etc. — and as you can’t log in (I tried that one before) using “prexy” in the URL it makes it more trouble than it’s worth (if you are a WP blogger inTurkey, that is). Perfect for visiting but not for administrating your blog, in other words. I had to uninstall it for that reason. Cool idea though! I’m probably pushing the request limit here, but any chance of making it toggle on and off? (Like the Tor button does).
Good work though, in all respects. Thanks for solving the space prob. too.
Thanks for removing my blogs. I think alot of people are angry over it because google and other search engines will penalise them for repeate postings. If you fix that and remove the ads, most people would be okay with it. Any whoo thanks for removing mine.
TD
@Jim: We have a toggle switch in the to-do list of the plugin. We are also working on logging-in and posting using WordPrexy. Posting comments was a priority, so we took care of that first.
@TD: We are now rejecting all requests from search engine crawlers and we have removed the ads. Now we have to pay the sites maintenance cost out of our pockets, but we’ll have to live with that… If the hits get so high that we can’t afford it anymore, we’ll just quit.
@LittleSnitch: Re: The ads conundrum. I sympathise with you in that your workaround solution to the block results in there being a price tag for the cost of free speech. Personally, I think it’s priceless. I understand the concerns of non-Turkey based bloggers. But I hazard a guess that Turkey-based WP bloggers, needlessly censored, feel differently. Just as an idea, how about setting up an online fund/account to which those who felt like it could make donations to help with the costs. I, for one, would happily donate to keep our channels open. This block isn’t disappearing overnight. We’re in for the long haul here.
@LittleSnitch: …also, when you say the toggle switch is in the “to-do” list of the plug in, what exactly do you mean? The plug-in downloads automatically and installs once Firefox restarts. There’s no documentation (such as a “to do” list) as far as I can see. If you mean the “options” button in the add-ons menu (tools>add-ons), the Wordprexy options button is dimmed and unusable (the only one like that). Sorry if I’m missing something obvious here. Am not so tech-savvy.
@Jim: Our to-do list, what we’re planning on for the site, and the plugin.
And by the way, I created a PayPal account and we accept donations from now on. The link is at the top of the blog, in the navigation bar. We appreciate any amount of donations.
Thanks in advance to all who will be donating money.
I DO NOT GIVE YOU PERMISSIONS TO COPY OR MIRROR MY BLOG ON WORDPRESS.COM:
MONTFORT.WORDPRESS.COM
YOU SITE SUCKS!
I’m sorry those idiots didn’t understand that you’re not copying their content in a money-making scheme. That’ll teach you to try to help someone, eh?
I want my blog removed from your mirror, please.
Thanks.
@LittleSnitch: Thanx for the updates there, on both fronts.
I’m with Mr. Gunn there on some peeps’ distinct lack of ability to read, or even follow the thread here. Will be donating sometime, as soon as I get paid.
